ClaraNET Interview 2

"We use several telecom providers, including BT, and have found BT to be no better or worse than other providers."

6) How do you feel about people surfing on your ISP for 8-10hours or more a day? Is this a problem or just a natural factor you've accounted for?

This is a natural factor, there will always be higher users of our service, which is not to say you should penalise people who use the service within the parameters of the account they have subscribed to, as such we do not punish abnormally higher users of our service.

7) Every ISP or Telco has to report to BT, how have you found your deals with them to be? Good/Bad and if so then why?

We use several telecom providers, including BT, and have found BT to be no better or worse than other providers.

8) FRIACO or BTSurftime, which would you prefer and why if you had the choice to start from scratch?

We would always say Friaco given the choice between the two, as Friaco allows ISPs to build their own Internet products/pricing, and more importantly the ISP still maintains the direct customer relationship. We would always prefer to acquire our own customers rather than resell another company's product, which is the case with Surftime.

9) What are you opinions, if any, on the recently announced update to FRIACO, FRIACO2?

We favoured Friaco over Surftime from the start, but I think ISPs have been disappointed with the delays in rolling out Friaco and the final product has also been a little disappointing in terms of availability and cost. We will keep an eye on regulatory developments within the industry, but this will not dictate Claranet's direction as a business.

10) What do you find to be the most important thing to cater for when operating an ISP? Customer support, cut off times, multiplayer support etc. and why?

Performance and stability has to be the most important in the long term, followed closely by good customer service and competitively priced products. Claranet has tried to develop a range of services to appeal at all levels, and we need to do this as Internet users' needs are so variable.
