According to ISPreview’s sources, the provider will finally add Disney+ (video streaming) support to their pay TV boxes and plans to launch a new loyalty programme for existing subscribers.

Broadband-based live TV streaming service Freely, which is backed by the major UK TV broadcasters and is an evolution – not (yet) a replacement – for the existing Freeview platform (inc. Freeview Play and Freesat), has revealed that they now have well over 1 million users (up from 500,000 from Sep-Dec 2025) and the number of Freeview homes in 2034 is forecast to fall to 860,000.

Customers of Sky’s broadband-based Sky Glass and Sky Stream pay TV streaming devices and service are suffering from an annoying bug with the ITVX app, which causes any TV show or movie you may be watching to suddenly skip right to the end and then report the content as having been watched.

Broadband and telecoms giant BT (EE) have teamed-up with social media giant Meta to develop and deploy a new technology that aims to make watching online videos via Facebook and Instagram more reliable for EE mobile customers, even during periods of high network demand.

The UK Government is expected to publish a new Green Paper in the next few weeks, which will set out their proposed plan for switching off terrestrial TV signals as part of a move toward internet-based streaming platforms. But the chosen date will be contingent upon universal coverage of affordable “superfast broadband” and other supporting requirements.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is getting closer and as part of that Openreach and BT have announced a “UK wide network service protection period” for their national broadband services, which will be in place from 11th June to 19th July 2026. The measures are designed to help mitigate an expected increase in network demand and to avoid changes that may disrupt match viewing.

The UK telecoms and media regulator, Ofcom, has today published a new Draft Code of Practice for internet and broadband based video streaming services (e.g. Netflix, Amazon / Prime, Disney+ etc.), which will require them to follow new rules, including around harm and offence, due impartiality and accuracy, fairness and privacy, and accessibility.

Network operators Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today published their latest Q1 2026 results and revealed that their gigabit broadband network increased its UK coverage by just 6,400 premises in the quarter (down from 115.1k in Q4), while related consumer customers fell to a total of 5,446,100 (down by -5.6k in Q1 2026). VMO2’s total mobile base also fell to 46.44m.
