It’s been a long time coming but Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has today confirmed that customers of their Sky Q Pay TV platform can now access Amazon’s Prime Video app on their set-top-boxes. At the same time Sky’s sibling NOW TV streaming service will become available on selected Amazon Fire TV devices.
Just to be clear, the new “long-term partnership” means that Amazon’s Prime Video app will TODAY launch on both Sky Q and NOW TV devices across Europe, while the NOW TV and Sky Ticket apps will also be coming to certain Fire TV devices today (i.e. Fire TV Stick Lite (1st Gen), Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen), Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) and the Fire TV Stick 4K).
In other words, for the first time, UK customers will be able to watch every live Premier League fixture on Sky Sports, Prime Video and BT Sport without switching devices (if you have deep enough pockets for all that content).
One catch here is that other Fire TV Devices, such as TV’s that have the service built-in, won’t be able to match the addition of NOW TV and Sky Ticket until “early 2021.”
Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO UK & Europe Sky, said:
“Sky Q customers are receiving an early Christmas present on their boxes this year in the form of Amazon Prime Video.
Anyone who needs to get stuck into something new after The Undoing on Sky Atlantic will now be able to flip right over to The Boys on Prime Video, without ever leaving Sky Q. Amazon Prime Video TV shows, movies and more will sit alongside Sky Originals and Netflix, as well as apps like Disney+, BBC iPlayer, FiiT and much more. This will make it even easier for you to access everything you love, in one place.
I’m delighted that this deal will give even more people access to our brilliant NOW TV and Sky Ticket apps through Amazon Fire TV devices and Fire TV Edition.”
Jay Marine, VP of Prime Video Worldwide, added:
“We’re pleased to be bringing our Prime Video app to Sky Q and NOW TV devices in time for the holidays. With winter settling in, and our new binge-watch obsession The Wilds about to launch, it’s a perfect time for Sky customers to catch up on our award-winning Prime Video TV shows, movies, and live sport, including Prime Video’s exclusive live broadcasts of 20 English Premier League games this December. Plus, with NOW TV launching on Fire TV – customers in the UK have never had it better when it comes to choosing what to watch however they are watching.”
Sky’s customers should be able to find Prime Video on Sky Q by saying “Launch Prime Video” into your voice remote, then sign-in to pair your Sky Q box with an existing Amazon account. More integration into Sky Q voice and search is expected to follow in 2021 to “give you a seamless UI experience, helping you easily discover more of what you love and accessing it quickly and easily with your voice.”
This is great news
Apart from the auto refresh rate doesn’t work for the app. Just hoping for an update real soon.
Excellent, this makes the Fire TV device the best streaming device in the U.K. now.
Good yes, but the new Roku Streambar better I think.
@Tony, the streambar is great especially for a bedroom type environment. The only downfall in my option is Roku’s interface is rather outdated.
Typical already had the 4K Firestick and a couple of week’s ago purchased the NowTV stick for £20.
Likewise Just bought a Roku as my two Amazon Fire TV devices don’t support Now TV and my NowTV box isn’t supported anymore.
I wonder which parts of NowTV boost they’re not gunna support on FireTV.
I own about 5 ways to play NowTV and still had to buy a NowTV stick in order to get 60fps, 1080p and 5.1. Almost all other ways of watching don’t support at least one of those for some weird reason!
Don’t you mean 50fps
Chromecast Ultra is your friend
So it looks like boost does work!

Virgin have had Amazon Prime access for ages now – and I’m saying that as a Sky Q customer, since I saw my friend demonstrate it on his Virgin box – so Sky are very late to the party.
Probably a lot easier for virgin as they just a service provider, and all content providers would have an interest being on their service.. Sky and amazon are rival content providers so a lot trickier to negotiate.
Prime Video has been available on Virgin Media since July 2019, so Sky is late – but Sky has Disney+ whilst VM won’t get that app until next year. It’s hard to know why there are delays on differing platforms.
Virgin has THE MOST outdated UI I’ve seen in years
If you’re not already Amazon prime subscriber app doesn’t appear
have you been smoking something?
Sounds legit – Amazon passed an export of all their punters that have Prime to Sky so they can individually target a software update to only those Sky Q boxes.
@Art Fish – no they haven’t as that would break data protection rules / GDPR. Don’t spread misinfortmation.
In reality, everyone sees the app. Amazon customers can then log into it if they want to.
I have been trying to put Amazon Prime onto a family member’s TV at another address through sky q but it is saying no connectivity. How can I rectify this. He can get it on his ipad but not through sky q on his television
As Amazon and Sky now seem to be getting along, how about getting Sky Q on a Firestick? I’ve tried all sorts of weird downloads onto a brand new Firestick, but none of them work.
Basically I want to play Sky on a TV away from home and don’t want to have to connect my laptop to it.
