UK ISP The 4th Utility, which last month secured a £25m investment boost from DIF Capital Partners to support the next phase of their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband rollout (here), has today announced that they will create 60 new jobs in Greater Manchester.
The provider first began building their network last year and have been working closely with major property developers – mostly catering for large apartment blocks (MDUs) and commercial properties. The immediate plan is to cover 10,000 properties by the end of 2020 and, thanks to that additional £25m, they now aim to cover 300,000 premises within the next 3 years (i.e. by around autumn 2023).
Obviously, this plan requires the ISP to put its expansion hat on and they’ll thus be increasing their workforce by five-fold across areas including sales, IT and administration. All of this is will be supported by the Salford-headquartered recruitment specialist, Morson Group, as part of a 3-year recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) partnership. In total, “up to” 60 new roles are expected to be created.
Tony Hughes, CEO at 4th Utility, said:
“We’re embarking on a really exciting period for 4th Utility and we’re thrilled to be making up to 60 new roles available as part of our strategy for future growth.
Morson Group is recognised as an industry leader when it comes to finding the very best talent, so we’re pleased to be linking up with them at such an important time for our business.
Increasing our market share and bringing commercial-grade fibre broadband to even more people is a strategic priority for us right now and in order to do that, we need a strong team of people behind us. With the support of Morson, I’m confident we will be well placed to drive the entire operation forward.”
Ged Mason OBE, CEO at Morson Group, said:
“It’s clear that 4th Utility is on an upwards growth trajectory, and we’re proud that they have chosen to appoint Morson as their recruitment partner and in doing so, unlock the benefits that such a collaborative partnership can offer.
Our 50 years of experience in the talent landscape allows us to cut through the noise to ensure we reach, recruit and retain the best people by deploying a powerful strategy that will overcome present day challenges and utilises innovative techniques such as video interviews and unconscious bias.
Going beyond recruitment, we offer clients a full suite of talent services, from candidate attraction through to support with legislative changes, and in today’s unique climate, which sees talent pools at a size that we may never see again in a generation, it’s our mission to keep Britain working.
To achieve this objective, we will be targeting workers with the right transferable skills and specifically those who have been hardest hit by the economic impact of COVID-19, to ensure 4th Utility has access to an agile pool of ambitious candidates.”
Under this plan a third of the new positions are expected to be live and filled before the end of 2020. The initial phase of this process involves the launch of a dedicated careers microsite, development of key hiring collateral, market intelligence information, as well as the rollout of Morson’s ‘Fit For Work’ app.
Lol wut, a whole 60 jobs?
60 is a massive achievement for a startup and they should be really proud of their achievement here.
No offence, but you’ve obviously not run a small or startup business. It’s hard work. These people will be thankful for the opportunity, as a country we will seeing massive unemployment rates coming upto Christmas, every new job is in my view something to celebrate .
How many jobs have you ‘created’?
I agree, 60 jobs in the current circumstances is indeed something to celebrate, I wish them all the best!
Sure I can create jobs, £0.50 and hour, they can sell some BT Openreach cups with the percentage of UK FTTP connections written on them.
Lighten up a bit maybe?
Great to see all these start up companies talking it the monopoly!
