 Sky Broadband (Broadband Fixed Line)

I've been on Sky Fibre Max now for a few years and was initially using the Sky Q Hub, which has improved since a few performance problems marred its early release. Luckily a few internet tricks meant I've long since been able to adopt a more modern third-party router from TP-Link (Archer VR900) that supports the Sky MER authentication system and that's been a good upgrade.

So far our house has been able to deliver a fairly steady download speed of 56Mbps, but CityFibre are now available so we'll shortly be leaving Sky.

Generally speaking the service, and support when we've needed it, have been reasonably good. Mind you we do have the odd gripe. For example, the router that the service offers by default is a fairly basic model and doesn't deliver particularly good WiFi.

Title: Quick test

I managed to give my friends Vodafone Mobile Broadband connection a try recently while attempting to figure out which was the best operator to choose for my remote working. Speed varied a lot between 700Kbps and 1.6Mbps but I was quite pleased with this, though for whatever reason a number of websites had loading problems, probably issues with me moving between indoor and outdoor locations.

Vodafone, like Three (3), is fairly well priced, though I'd probably rather have Three's 5GB for the same price as Vodafone's 3GB and take the lower speed. You don't get much in the way of services with Mobile Broadband, it's just a raw connection and since nobody does any different then I can't really rate it down.

Pretty good so far, can't complain and apparently customer support is reasonable but occasionally a bit slow according to the owner.

Generally a reasonable operator. Support has always been fine, although their Online Account pages don't offer the same upgrade deals as you get in their stores. Data speed is a bit on the weak side but I don't expect much from the cheapest operator, which gave me a few extra GigaByte's than their rivals.

My only real 3 Mobile UK gripe is with how some of my text messages don't get delivered, which is not a problem I've had in this area on other operators. Network coverage is also a bit more patchy.

Good for the money though and the recent removal of their Tethering (Personal Hotspot) cap is most welcome.
